Dr. Florence Prophete-Barbour
Executive Director
Florence Prophete-Barbour, Ed.D, was appointed to the position of Executive Director of Harbor Child Care in June 2021. In this role, Mrs. Barbour is the chief executive officer overseeing five centers, a staff of 300, approximately 1,000 students, and a budget of over $11M annually. Previously, Mrs. Barbour was the Senior Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development for Harbor Child Care, Inc. Before this position, she was the center director of Harbor Child Care at RXR Plaza in Uniondale for eight years. She began her journey in early childhood education, interestingly enough when she was a psychologist serving adults with developmental disabilities. In her work, she continued to gravitate to educating children, especially our youngest learners. With that in mind, she earned a license in School Supervision and Administration (now called School Building Leader) and worked as the director of an early childhood program providing services for children with developmental delays. For over 30 years, she has devoted herself to the care and education of young children.
Nick Katos
Senior Director/Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Nick Katos is Senior Director/CFO of Harbor Child Care. Nick has been with Harbor since September 2010. He has a strong background in accounting, finance, and business management. Nick has a resume dating 35 years which includes financial roles with the Walt Disney Company and with Sony Music.
Nick holds his Bachelor of Business Administration from Pace University and manages all company financials. He has a staff of business managers who are responsible for their respective Harbor Child Care centers. Any questions that cannot be answered by the business managers will be forwarded to Nick. Along with his financial role, Nick is also very much involved with operations, information technology, and program solutions.
Marilyn Rodriguez
Director of Human Resources
Marilyn Rodriguez has been working at Harbor Child Care since March 2010. She became the Director of Human Resources in September 2018. Her current responsibilities include overseeing employee benefits, recruitment, employee relations, and performance management.
Marilyn has worked in three Harbor Child Care locations starting as a teacher before moving into administration in November 2012. She possesses vast classroom experience, having worked with children from birth to 15 years of age.
Marilyn has a Bachelor of Science degree from St. John’s University and is working towards a Master of Science degree in Bilingual Childhood Special Education in Inclusive Settings.
Jagruti Patel
Senior Director of Business
Jagruti Patel is lovingly known as JJ around Harbor Child Care. Jagruti is the Senior Director of Business and has been working with Harbor Child Care since February 2011. She first started working in the human resources office on a part-time basis, along with helping at all centers when needed, before moving permanently to the business office to work full time with Nick Katos, Harbor’s Senior Director/CFO. Together, Nick and JJ handle payroll, billing, vendors, payments, and other financial-related work.
Jagruti has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from India and a Master’s degree in Business Management. Her career was mainly in information technology for over 10 years before giving it all up to raise her daughter. Upon her return to the world of business, Jagruti was fortunate enough to have found employment with Harbor Child Care and considers it to be “her home away from home.”
Brendan Huggins
Coordinator of Food Services
Brendan Huggins was appointed to the position of Coordinator of Food Services in September 2018. Before working in food services Brendan was the school-age coordinator since 2012 in which he helped to oversee the school-age and summer camp programs.
As the Coordinator of Food Services Brendan makes sure that Harbor is compliant with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines, prepares monthly menus filled with healthy, nutritious, and delicious meals, and oversees kitchen staff for 3 Harbor Child Care centers. Brendan has an Associate’s degree in Communications from New York Institute of Technology and enjoys working with children.

Erica Giddens
Center Director
Erica Giddens is the Center Director of Harbor Child Care in Glen Cove. Erica ensures that all the daily operations of the Center run smoothly and efficiently for children, families and staff. She strives to provide the children with a safe, healthy, loving environment to learn and grow. Erica holds 17 years of experience in the early childhood education field and is very passionate about the development of the children.
Deanna Hubbard
Assistant Center Director
My name is Deanna Hubbard. I have been working in early childcare for over 30 years. I joined the Harbor Child Care team in 2016, where I started as an Assistant Pre-K teacher and then moved up to Head Pre-K teacher. I was promoted to Center Coordinator in December 2022 and Assistant Director in December 2023. Through the years, I have gained excellent experience working with children and their families. As an Assistant Director, I am dedicated to ensuring a healthy and safe environment that will stimulate the physical, intellectual, multicultural, social, and emotional growth of our children.
Herricks - New Hyde Park
Kristen Beckmann
Center Director
Kristen Beckmann is the Center Director of Harbor Child Care’s Herricks Center in New Hyde Park. Kristen has been employed with Harbor Child Care since September 2009. She started as an assistant teacher prior to moving into administration and becoming Center Director. Her current responsibilities are to oversee the infant and toddler program and to ensure the best possible care and development in our program.
Kristen attended Nassau Community College and Briarcliff College. She holds a Child Development Associates credential in Early Childhood. Kristen is in the process of completing her degree in Early Childhood Education at SUNY Empire State College.
Laura Bromberg
Associate Director
With more than 25 years of experience as an educator, Laura has dedicated her career to nurturing the academic, social, and emotional growth of children while supporting families and fellow educators.
Laura earned her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and Sociology from Queens College. She went on to pursue advanced studies, obtaining a Master’s in Early Childhood Education from St. John’s University, a Master’s in Special Education, Reading Certificate from Columbia Teachers’ College and her Professional Certificate in School Administration from Stony Brook University.
A lifelong learner, Laura strongly believes in the power of learning through experience. Her intensive training in special education law has allowed her to guide and advocate for countless families during CPSE and CSE meetings. She gained valuable expertise while working with the county as a Representative at the Committee on Special Education, where she helped ensure that children with diverse needs received the services and support they deserved.
Laura has also served as a kindergarten and elementary school teacher as well as a literacy coach, roles that enabled her to champion curriculum development and instructional best practices. Her work here at Harbor will support the integration of the Creative Curriculum within Pre-K and Universal Pre-K programs, enriching early learning environments for young children.
Beyond her local impact, Laura’s commitment to education extends globally. She serves on an educational board that supports a school in Ghana, fostering cross-cultural connections and helping to provide children abroad with greater opportunities for learning.
Laura has spent many weekends cheering on her son and extended family on the football, lacrosse and baseball fields. She enjoys golfing, going to see live music and traveling.
Cristina Buna
Assistant Center Director
Cristina is the Assistant Center Director at Harbor Child Care’s Herricks location. She holds a Child Development Associate (CDA) Certification in Early Childhood Education and brings over eight years of dedicated service to Harbor Child Care.
Throughout her career, Cristina has filled many key roles, including Head Infant Teacher, Head Toddler Teacher, and Teacher’s Assistant in the UPK department. She also served as Interim Director at the Manhasset location before stepping into her current role as Assistant Center Director. These experiences have given her a strong foundation in both classroom leadership and center operations.
Cristina’s passion and dedication to early childhood development are at the heart of her work. She is committed to creating a nurturing, inclusive learning environment where children feel safe, valued, and supported in their growth. As Assistant Director, her goal is to continue fostering meaningful learning experiences that promote each child’s social, emotional, and developmental success.
As a mother herself, Cristina understands the importance of trust, care, and individualized attention. She is deeply committed to ensuring every child thrives and reaches their full potential during these critical early years.

Meagan Wilson
Center Director
Meagan Wilson is the current Center Director of Harbor Child Care’s Manhasset Center, located at Northwell Health. With more than 13 years of experience as a childcare provider, Meagan has developed a strong commitment to delivering high-quality care that fulfills the goals of parents while addressing the diverse needs of their children. Since joining Harbor Child Care in 2019, she has made significant contributions as a Lead Infant Teacher and later as an Assistant Center Director. Prior to her work at Harbor, Meagan spent over 8 years working closely with children with special needs, which has deeply shaped her philosophy on childcare. As a mother of three, she understands the importance of providing every child with a safe, nurturing environment that encourages learning and growth.
Meagan earned her Associate’s Degree from Nassau Community College and is currently furthering her education by pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Care & Management.
RXR Plaza - Uniondale
Anniina Macaluso
Center Director
Anniina Macaluso is the Center Director of Harbor Child Care at RXR Plaza in Uniondale. She has been with Harbor Child Care since February 2008 and has been working in the early childhood field since September 2002. Anniina has worked with children of all ages before becoming an administrator. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood at SUNY Empire State College.
As the Center Director, Anniina’s goal is to ensure a healthy, safe, and fun atmosphere where children and families enjoy the support from teachers that foster and promote a life time of learning in an educationally rich environment.
Claudina Munoz Cigliano
Assistant Center Director
Claudina Munoz Cigliano is the Assistant Director at RXR Plaza in Uniondale. As the Assistant Director, Claudina is dedicated to ensuring a safe, nurturing, and fun learning environment. Claudina works closely with the director to support the diverse needs of the children as well oversee the daily operations of the center. Claudina has worked in Early Childhood since 2011. Starting as a consultant for the Archdiocese of New York and then joining the administrative team of a Brooklyn-based Early Childhood Program. During that time, Claudina gained experience in all aspects of center-based learning as well as administrative regulations. After becoming a mom in 2020, Claudina took on the role of Site Director and helped to create a home away from home learning environment for over 50 students and their families. According to Claudina there is nothing better than a happy thriving child.
Shelter Rock - Roslyn
Janet Buna
Center Director
Janet Buna is the Center Director at Harbor’s newest location in Roslyn, NY. Janet has been with Harbor Child Care for over thirteen years. She began working with children as an assistant teacher in the toddler classroom, later moving into the role of assistant teacher in the Universal Pre-K (UPK) classroom at Harbor’s Herricks location. Moving forward, she became the head teacher in that same UPK classroom. Janet is now the director of a UPK program that partners with the Garden City School District.
Besides being a mom of two beautiful girls, Janet is continuing her education at Western Governors University.
Willis Avenue - Mineola
Lisa Virzera
Center Director
Lisa Virzera joined Harbor Child Care in 2009 and was promoted to Center Director of the Harbor Child Care Willis Avenue/Mineola Center in May 2017. She started with Harbor Child Care as a head toddler teacher, and was promoted to administration in 2013.
With her understanding of child development Lisa is responsible for 22 classrooms at the Willis Avenue/Mineola Center. Her responsibilities include but are not limited to ensuring full student enrollment for the infants, toddlers, and the preschool classrooms, as well as making sure that the program adheres to state standards and regulations. Lisa uses her past years of experience to continually grow in her position as well as further enhance the growth of the Willis Avenue/Mineola Center.
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Childhood Education from SUNY Old Westbury, and a Master of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Queens College. Lisa is continuing her education and going back to school at Marymount University to pursue her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Organizational Innovation.
Alicia Harnandan
Assistant Center Director
Alicia Harnandan joined Harbor Child Care in January 2017 as the Assistant Center Director and coordinator of the preschool and universal preschool (UPK) programs for the Willis Avenue/Mineola Center. In her current position, Alicia works closely with the Center Director to help ensure the smooth operation of the Center’s daily experiences with staff, children and families.
Alicia began teaching in 2009. Prior to coming to Harbor, Alicia worked as an assistant teacher and then became a head teacher in preschool classrooms. Alicia also has experience working as a special education preschool teacher.
Alicia has a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education Birth-2nd from Touro College. She also graduated from Queens College and has an undergraduate degree in Child Development and Sociology.
Mary Maione
Assistant Center Director
Mary Maione is the Assistant Center Director of infant and toddler programs for the Harbor Child Care Willis Avenue/Mineola Center. Mary has worked at this location since November 2013. Mary started in the toddler classrooms, and prior to moving into administration was the head teacher of an infant classroom.
In her current position Mary works closely with the Center Director in maintaining the daily operation of a safe learning environment for infants and toddlers. As a mom of two boys it is extremely important to Mary that the children who attend Willis get the most from their experiences while being cared for at the Center.
Mary attended Nassau Community College where she received her Teacher Assistant certification. She also has a Child Development Associates credential in Early Childhood Education. Mary writes, “Here, we are the stepping stones to every child’s bright future that lies ahead of them”.
Ami Parikh
Business Manager
Ami Parikh is the Business Manager for the Harbor Child Care Willis Avenue/Mineola Center. Prior to taking a break from the corporate world to raise her two sons, Ami worked at Deutsche Bank for almost 8 years.
Ami has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from Pace University. She joined Harbor as an assistant teacher in October 2016 and is delighted to have had this opportunity to use her experience and education to assist all the children’s families at Willis in her current position.
