The Universal Pre-K (UPK) dual language classroom at Harbor Child Care in Mineola was visited today by News12. With new state funding and federal initiatives regarding UPK, the Mineola school district asked Harbor to partner with them to provide a UPK Spanish emersion program beginning September 2021.
The children are taught the Creative Curriculum in English and Spanish by Ms. Masiel (pictured here), Ms. Catherine, and Ms. Mary. Dr. Michael Nagler, Superintendent of Schools for Mineola Public Schools, and Florence Barbour, Executive Director, discussed their roles in fostering a dual language program for young children. The need was apparent in the Mineola community. The story by News12 will air in a few weeks.
