Early childhood education professionals regard the Creative Curriculum as one of the most effective ways to help children develop academically, emotionally, and socially. This innovative approach enables children’s minds to flourish while aligning with New York State’s Common Core standards, encouraging creativity and independence and preparing them for the future.

What Is the Creative Curriculum Approach?

An early childhood curriculum that focuses on project-based investigations as a means for children to apply skills and addresses four areas of development: social/emotional, physical, cognitive, and language. The curriculum is designed to foster development of the whole child through teacher-led, small and large group activities centered around 11 interest areas (blocks, dramatic play, toys and games, art, library, discovery, sand and water, music and movement, cooking, computers, and outdoors). The curriculum provides teachers with details on child development, classroom organization, teaching strategies, and engaging families in the learning process.

Creative Curriculum

While the Department of Education’s description of the Creative Curriculum provides a general idea of its core concepts, our staff implements this approach in ways that offer the most significant benefits to the specific children they teach. Harbor Child Care supports a healthy balance of teacher-guided learning activities and free choice, providing children with a well-rounded education without sacrificing their independence.
