Child taking a bath

For busy parents, bath time for their children is usually something on the list of things to get done before a child goes to bed. Even at a young age, there’s a different approach that can be taken to make bath time both fun and educational. When a child is taking a bath, it’s a great opportunity for exploration and learning without them even realizing it.

Here’s how:

Squirt toys: There are a wide variety of colorful toys that can be placed in the bath that can squirt water, bob up and down to fully engage a child and further develop his/her motor skills.

Waterproof books: You can purchase waterproof books at a nominal cost. These can keep even the youngest child distracted while being bathed or having their hair washed.

Sticky net: Children should learn to clean up their toys at a young age, and the bath is a great place to start this habit. There are small nets that can be suctioned to most bathroom walls or the side of a bathtub. When bathtime is over, encourage your child to hand you the toys or even place them in the container themselves.

Bath time is actually an important precursor to children learning not to be afraid of the water. When they are comfortable in the bath, the natural next step is to take children for swim lessons. The more fun they have experienced in the bath, the more they will embrace this next activity. So next time you are tempted to rush bath time, remember that it can provide your child with many valuable lessons.

Harbor Child Care is here to help foster your child’s learning experiences in any way we can. For more information, contact us.
