The early years of life are the perfect time for parents to bond with their children. It’s exciting to see a baby start recognizing faces or a toddler showing signs of independence. After a few short years, however, it’s time to take the next step. Children learn at lightning speed from birth to age five. The right preschool program can really make a big difference.

Preparing for Preschool
Starting preschool is a major milestone for both parents and children. Excitement, sadness, fear and separation anxiety are some of the feelings that are often expressed. A child usually begins preschool when they are three or four years old. The experience can be extremely beneficial, as it helps children develop emotional and academic skills. Here are a few ways you can prepare for the big day.
Preschool Readiness Tips
- Role playing. Take turns pretending to be the parent, child and teacher. Act out likely situations.
- Read books about preschool over the summer with your child. Discuss the story and ask how your child is feeling.
- Practice self-help skills. Have your child put on a backpack, fasten their shoes, and unzip their jacket.
- Visit the school with your child. Get to know the caregivers, the play equipment and the atmosphere.
- Talk to your child about the fun they will have in a new learning environment.
- The first few times you drop your child off, allow a few extra minutes for a smooth transition.
- Explain to your child their new daily routine and what to expect.
