Each year from September 15 to October 15, we observe Hispanic Heritage Month at Harbor Child Care. It’s a time to recognize the cultures, languages, and traditions that are part of so many families in our centers, and part of what makes our Harbor community so special.
Hispanic Heritage Month honors the contributions of people from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Those contributions are not just something we read about; they show up in our classrooms every day, in the stories children tell, the foods they enjoy, and the languages they speak.
This month provides us with an opportunity to reflect on that and acknowledge the importance of culture to a child’s identity. Feeling proud of where you come from helps children feel confident, especially when they see those parts of themselves reflected in the world around them.
We know not every child has the same background, and that’s part of the beauty of being here. Hispanic Heritage Month is one way we show respect for that diversity and make sure all families feel welcomed and included.

Whether it’s through language, traditions, or simple moments shared across cultures, this month serves as a poignant reminder of how much we can learn from one another. And we’re lucky to work with so many families who bring that richness to Harbor every day.
