Kids gardening for Earth Day

Earth Day is a global event celebrated every April 22 and is meant to raise awareness about environmental issues like climate change and pollution. It also encourages people to take action to protect our planet by reducing waste, conserving resources, and supporting sustainable practices.

There are many ways to teach your kids about Earth Day, including having them participate in some of these Earth Day activities.

Park and Beach Cleanup

Helping to clean up the local parks and beaches is an excellent start to keeping the environment clean. You can even organize a cleanup contest or garbage scavenger hunt to make it fun and exciting for your kids.

Plant a Tree or Start a Garden

Tree planting events help create a greener environment. Grow a small herb garden or a larger vegetable garden to teach your kids about sustainable food production. Visiting a local nature center is a good way for your kids to learn about the ecosystems.

Don’t Forget About the Birds

It is always nice to provide food for the local birds. Your kids can also make a bird feeder from recycled materials and decorate it.

Remember the 3 R’s

Teaching your kids the 3 R’s (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) will help them learn about the importance of recycling and reducing, and encourage them to use reusable containers, bags, and bottles. You can make it fun for your kids to learn about recycling by having them turn recycled materials into arts and crafts projects.

At Harbor Child Care, we help children understand the importance of Earth Day by creating fun activities for them to do to help the environment.
